Additional Information:
The duathlon will be held on Sunday 31 January 2010 along a scenic 33km section of the Otago Central Rail Trail, a former railway line converted by the Department of Conservation for recreational use. Check out www.otagocentralrailtrail.co.nz for more information about the Rail Trail.
Competitors register at Middlemarch Railway Station at 12:00 pm.
Race briefing at 12:30 pm.
The OCRT duathlon involves three stages:
7km run Tiroiti (Capburn Bridge) to Hyde Railway Station
17km mountain bike Hyde Railway Station to Moynihans Lane
9km run Moynihans Lane to Middlemarch
Events: Individual Men Team Men
Individual Women Team Women
Team Mixed (up to 3 people per team)
Age Groups: Individuals 35-44; 45-52; 53-60; 60+
Teams 35-44; 45-54; and 55+
General Race Rules:
The age restrictions and team requirements for the Masters Games Duathlon are contained in the NZ Masters Games Registration Book.
Entries are not transferable to other competitors. Both competitors will be disqualified.
An individual competitor may not be part of a team.
Competitors must not be accompanied or paced by cyclists, vehicles or un-entered competitors. If this occurs the competitor will be disqualified.
Competitors must keep to the Rail Trail. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
The race number must be worn as issued and must not be altered. Only competitors wearing official race numbers will be allowed to finish.
Marshalls will control all road crossings. Competitors must adhere to their directions and must stop when directed to. Vehicle traffic has right of way at crossings.
Our Safety Plan requires that cyclists must dismount at all road crossings and push bikes across. Marshalls directions must be followed.
Helmets are compulsory on the cycle stage.
Competitors must make their own arrangements for transport of bikes between stages.
Drink stations will be located at each transition point.
Every team member must do at least one complete stage.
All stages must be completed by the team member starting the stage.
Transport:
Middlemarch township is one hours drive from Dunedin and is the closest town to where the event is being held.
Competitors are required to provide their own transport and race support for the event.
General:
Duathlon competitors need to be self sufficient. The course is along the Otago Central Rail Trail which has a gravel surface, in generally good condition. No roads are closed for this event. Normal road rules apply, competitors must dismount at all road crossings and follow marshalls instructions. Motorists have right of way at all times. There is one tunnel on the first run stage so a torch is advised.
